We regret the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Lorenzo M. Narducci, on the morning of Friday, July 21, 2006. Lorenzo will be greatly missed as a key contributor to the editorial process at Physical Review A throughout his 15 years as an Associate Editor. He was also a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America. His six books and at least 200 widely cited journal publications earned him great respect for his work on a broad range of phenomena. He was dedicated to the pursuit of the highest standards of academic excellence in both research and publication, and he encouraged these same high standards in those who worked with him.
Lorenzo received his Ph.D. from the University of Milano. In 1966 he came to the United States for a position as a Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. In 1976 Lorenzo joined the faculty at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he was Francis K. Davis Professor. In 1991 he received the Einstein Prize for Laser Optics and in 1999 was awarded the Willis E. Lamb Medal for Laser Science and Quantum Optics.
All of us at Physical Review pass on our condolences to the members of his family. We will miss the contributions he made to the journal and our lives as a colleague and friend. His high standards contributed greatly to the quality and success of Physical Review A.
