Phys. Rev. A 75, 062109 (2007) [5 pages]Electron capture by an electric dipole in two dimensionsReceived 27 February 2007; published 18 June 2007 The question of the existence of a nonzero minimum dipole moment D0 that can sustain an electron bound state for an electric dipole in two dimensions is examined both classically and quantum mechanically. The results suggest that in the latter case, D0⩽0.209 compared to the Fermi-Teller value 0.904 for three dimensions (in atomic units). © 2007 The American Physical Society URL:
