Generation of entangled states of multiple trapped ions in thermal motion

A scheme is presented for generating entangled states of the W type for trapped ions in thermal motion. In the scheme the ions are simultaneously excited by a laser. Our scheme is insensitive to both the initial motional state and heating as long as the system remains in the Lamb-Dicke regime.
