A 66, 042507 (2002) [5 pages]Asymptotically exact expression for the energies of the 3Se Rydberg series in a two-electron systemReceived 6 May 2002; revised 14 August 2002; published 23 October 2002 The 1sns3Se Rydberg series in a two-electron system with the charge of the nucleus, Z≈1, is treated by means of the quantum-defect theory. Comparison with configuration interaction calculations suggests that the quantum-defect expression for the energy levels becomes asymptotically exact as Z⃗1. This provides an analytic description of the disappearance of the 1sns3Se bound states when Z approaches the critical value of 1. © 2002 The American Physical Society URL:
