Phys. Rev. A 65, 052109 (2002) [6 pages]Dimensional enhancement of kinetic energiesReceived 27 December 2001; published 18 April 2002 Simple thermodynamics considers kinetic energy to be an extensive variable which is proportional to the number N of particles. We present a quantum state of N noninteracting particles for which the kinetic energy increases quadratically with N. This enhancement effect is tied to the quantum centrifugal potential whose strength is quadratic in the number of dimensions of configuration space. © 2002 The American Physical Society URL:
