Phys. Rev. A 63, 062722 (2001) [8 pages]Picturing the ionization process in ion-atom collisions with time-dependent quantum and classical methodsReceived 19 January 2001; published 16 May 2001 The classical trajectory Monte Carlo method and the monocentric close-coupling Bessel expansion scheme are implemented to describe ionizing He2++H(1s) collisions at the threshold of the high-impact-energy range. Ionization dynamics are pictured by showing the temporal evolution of both ionizing density and average velocity field. We emphasize that the classical and quantum-mechanical treatments of electronic motion yield very close descriptions of ionization. © 2001 The American Physical Society URL:
