Phys. Rev. A 63, 043804 (2001) [5 pages]Linear and nonlinear optical properties of an autoionizing mediumReceived 31 August 2000; published 7 March 2001 We study the linear and nonlinear optical properties of autoionizing systems under the action of a single-laser field. It is found that the group velocity is greatly reduced by the presence of a neighboring autoionizing state. Conditions for self-focusing or defocusing are also derived for the case of an isolated autoionizing system. © 2001 The American Physical Society URL:
