Calculations are made of the resonance contribution to electron-impact excitation of Li-like 57Fe and H-like 14N ions to the upper hyperfine levels that produce mm lines of likely astrophysical interest. The resonance contribution is found to be very important for 57Fe, but rather unimportant for 14N. Inclusion of the effect of radiative decay is found to be slightly significant for 57Fe, but insignificant for 14N.
