Bound-state energies of the helium atom in magnetic fields up to 2.35×109G are calculated. At 109G accuracies range between ≲10-9a.u. for the ground state and <5×10-4a.u. for the majority of states evolving from the field-free 1s3l states, which matches the resolution of astronomical spectra. Correlation effects contribute ≲10-2a.u. to the energy shifts by the field. The energies are variational upper bounds obtained with Hylleraas-like explicitly correlated functions.
