We show that spontaneous emission can significantly alter the dynamics of a two-atom microlaser. This feature can persist even for very small decay rates and is a consequence of the existence of two coherently decoupled sets of two-atom states. We find, however, that under favorable conditions (as are found in ion traps) spontaneous emission can increase atom-atom correlations by optically pumping the atoms into an entangled two-atom state.
