We obtain the quantal zero-energy-loss limit of the radial integrals arising in the nonrelativistic atomic excitation of electric-hexadecapole transitions. We compare these results to the classical limit and the WKB approximation. We show the different behavior of the Coulomb integrals in the WKB approximation in the cases of repulsive and attractive potentials as functions of the Sommerfeld number η. © 1996 The American Physical Society.
